school counselor overview

As a comprehension and data-driven school counseling program, school counselors follow the ASCA National Model (American School Counselor Association). Through this model, school counselors are able to provide students with the necessary support across three domains, Academic Achievement, College/Career Readiness, and Social-Emotional Growth and Development. This is achieved via the school counseling department's district-wide Tier 1 lessons and school-wide activities.

School Wide activities

School counselors provide students with opportunities to acquire the necessary skills to achieve academic, socio-emotional and post-secondary success. Monthly activities are designed to target the three domains: Academic Achievement, College/Career Readiness, and Social-Emotional Growth and Development.

Group counseling
Small group counseling is utilized when data determines that select students are in need of targeted interventions. When this occurs, the selected students will meet with the school counselor once a week for up to 8 weeks. During this timeframe, students will learn the necessary skills to achieve success in the identified area(s).

Individual Counseling
Short-term individual counseling is utilized when it is determined that a student is in need of one-on-one counseling sessions with their counselor. School counselors are able to provide weekly, 30 minute sessions for up to 8 weeks. During this timeframe, student and counselor work collaboratively to address the student's needs.

However, circumstances do arise where we must disclose information to appropriate professionals. Reasons for breaking confidentiality are but not limited to: a student is in danger of harming themselves, another individual, or if a student is in danger of being harmed by others.
